His Sare Jahan Se Acha was also published in a weekly journal in Lahore called the Ittehad on 16th August 1904. Even today his poems are talked about in Afghanistan and Pakistan though today they are called Iqbal - e - Lahore. In fact, his poetry was very famous in the areas around Lahore. ![]() He was a renowned poet who is known for his poetry in Urdu. The sare Jahan se acha lyrics were written by Mohammad Iqbal, a Philosopher and Barrister and poet. ![]() The poem was originally written in Urdu and later translated to other languages in India as well as English when the song went on to become extremely popular. The song was later rechristened with the name Sare Jahan Se Acha which was actually the first line in the song. The song when it was composed was called the ‘Taranah - e - Hindi’ meaning the anthem of people of Hindustani. The song was composed in the early 1900s during the period when India was ruled by British and India was still Hindustan with Pakistan being a part of our country.
